Windsor Mill Tavern

It has been along time in the making…The Mill is finally rebuilt and open for business.

The Mill was constructed in 1899. The building was 4 stories high made of large wooden timbers and brick. The Mill was the gathering place for the community. The Mill provided the Windsor community and the surrounding area with flour and seeds which were essential to survival. Many people would come to The Mill to buy goods and tell stories, it truly was the gathering center.

The mill has over come the effects of the 2005 tornado and the devastating fire of 2017. Now it has been restored and reopened. It is once again a location to gather in our modern day world, only this time we are buying hand crafted drinks and wonder food.

The Mill currently houses an Italian Restaurant on the main level and Windsor Mill Tavern in the cellar. The Windsor Mill Tavern is absolutely wonderful. The architecture is original to the building, since it was protected during the 2017 fire. The massive wooden beams and stone walls tell the historical story of the building. The architect assigned with the task of redesigning The Mill has done an amazing job of honoring the history, along with adding in the modern day essentials. The atmosphere is inviting, classic, and yet contemporary which provides the visitor with a homie feeling.

My husband and I, have been to Windsor Mill Tavern twice since it has opened this fall. We plan on going back again, again, and again. We love it. It is fun to watch the staff create the hand craft cocktails. We have personally tried the Mill Old Fashioned, the Sangre de Cristo, and the Mill Margarita. I have also tried a couple of the wines on the list. We have enjoyed each of the drinks and my husbands says that the Mill Old Fashion is one of the Best!

When Chris and I go out for drinks, we also enjoy eating. Thus far, we have eaten the Elot Nachos, Chicken Wings, Brussels and Butternuts as appetizers. For dinner we have enjoyed the Tavern Chicken Sandwich, the Tavern Burger, Tavern Chili, and two different types of homemade Fries w/mustard sauces.

Each Item we have eaten has been wonderful and we have enjoyed all of them. It is obvious that a lot of care has been taken with the development of the menu. I am sure that there were many nights of taste testing before the final menu was created. All of the items have a uniqueness to them, in a good way. It is not too fancy and yet it feels and taste special.

The Windsor Mill Tavern is an inviting setting, to have a wonderful evening out for a date, or to enjoy good conversations with good friends. I highly recommend The Windsor Mill Tavern. If you do not live in Windsor it is worth the drive. The exquisite renovation, wonderful drinks and savory food is well worth the trip.
